We will be welcomed by our host, the Tulare County Agricultural Commissioner, Marilyn Kinoshita.
Our Key Note Speaker will be University of California Apiculturist Dr. Eric Mussen, who along with many other awards was the winner of the statewide 2010 Pedro Ilic Outstanding Agricultural Educator Award for his work in educating the beekeeping industry and the general public about honey bees.
Following Dr. Mussen’s presentation, we will have two other outstanding speakers, Dr. Punchi Hewo a Professor at the University of Sri Lanka, here on sabbatical. Also, Dr. Gordon Wardell, a long time researcher and a moving force in developing and bringing Mega Bee Products to the market. He is presently the in house bee researcher and apiculturist for Paramount Farming.
We are lucky and blessed to have this caliber of speakers give of their time that put forth their effort to speak at our bee club which leads into our clubs efforts to acquire the necessary equipment of a power point. Unfortunately we have a way to go to reach our goal of $1,000.00 , a required minimum. Our current fund toward the power point is now $647.00 which includes 3 $100.00 donations and one $100.00 pledge other than that we only have a hand full of donations about 10 plus the profits from the raffle held at our last meeting.
Let me say this to those of you who have not donated towards our power point equipment fund, we are still short so if you enjoy our meetings and those quality speakers, help us out with whatever you can manage. We will also be holding a 50/50 raffle at the April meeting the proceeds of which will go towards the power point.
In closing, I would like to mention that Olivarez Honey Bees are hosting their 2nd Annual Hobbyist Day on Saturday April 17th at their warehouse in Orland, Ca the speakers will be Sue Cobey of UC Davis a world renowned expert on queen insemination and geneticist and Randy Oliver a bee researcher writer and commercial beekeeper. A BBQ lunch will be served for information or reservations call 530-865-0298.
